The Skin Surgery Center of Greensboro, The Skin Surgery Center of Mt. Airy and Western Piedmont Dermatology Also Earn Re-Accreditation Status

Winston-Salem, NC (Jan. 3, 2019) – The Skin Surgery Center of Winston-Salem and 3 of its satellite practice locations, The Skin Surgery Center of Greensboro, The Skin Surgery Center of Mt. Airy and Western Piedmont Dermatology, have achieved a 3 year re-accreditation status by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). Accreditation distinguishes these practices from many other outpatient facilities by providing the highest quality of care to their patients as determined by an independent, external process of evaluation.

Status as an accredited organization means The Skin Surgery Center of Winston-Salem, The Skin Surgery Center of Greensboro, The Skin Surgery Center of Mt. Airy and Western Piedmont Dermatology have met nationally recognized standards for the provision of quality health care set by AAAHC. Sites that receive this accreditation must demonstrate substantial compliance in 8 core areas including: Administration, Governance, Patient Rights and Responsibilities, Quality of Care, Quality Management and Improvement, Clinical Records, Infection Prevention/Control and Facilities and Environment.

More than 6,000 ambulatory health care organizations across the United States are accredited by AAAHC. Not all ambulatory health care organizations seek accreditation; not all that undergo the rigorous on-site survey process are granted accreditation.

“We are proud to earn the re-accreditation status from AAAHC,” says Barry Leshin, MD, founder of The Skin Surgery Center. “This accreditation means that AAAHC has closely examined our facilities and procedures. It shows that we as an organization care enough about our patients to strive for the highest level of care possible.”

Ambulatory health care organizations seeking accreditation by AAAHC undergo an extensive self-assessment and on-site survey by AAAHC expert surveyors – physicians, nurses, and administrators who are actively involved in ambulatory health care. The survey is consultative and educational, presenting best practices to help an organization improve its care and services.

“At The Skin Surgery Center, our goal is to continually seek ways to enhance patient care,” says John Albertini, MD. “Going through the re-accreditation process gives us a chance to evaluate how we deliver care and identify opportunities to improve further.”
