She is board-certified in Dermatology and Micrographic Dermatologic Surgery by the American Board of Dermatology. She is an active fellow in the American College of Mohs Surgery and American Academy of Dermatology. She has authored published articles on a variety of subjects in several dermatologic journals including the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology Case Reports, Journal of Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery, and Journal of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery.
Dr. Howerter is one of a select group of Mohs surgeons who is fellowship-trained in Mohs surgery.
This means she received additional, focused subspecialty training after dermatology residency from an ACGME-approved Mohs fellowship receiving concentrated direction and supervision for a period of at least one year. While there are many physicians who perform Mohs surgery, only a subset have received this kind of training and are thus recognized by the American College of Mohs Surgery, a professional membership organization for fellowship-trained Mohs surgeons. This training not only affords the experience, education, and skill set that a fellowship can provide, but in combination with a certification exam meets requirements for board certification in Micrographic Dermatologic Surgery.
