David Harker
MD
David Harker, M.D., joined the Skin Surgery Center in July 2020 at both of our Hickory locations.
Dr. Harker is a graduate of Brigham Young University, completing his studies in Genetics and Biotechnology as a Heritage Scholar with a full-tuition scholarship and graduating magna cum laude. He earned his Doctor of Medicine Degree at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. In addition to excelling in his studies and clinical rotations, Dr. Harker invested significant time researching the immunology of melanoma, presenting posters at academic conferences, and contributing to publications in high profile dermatology journals. He also volunteered at local clinics for the homeless and tutored other students in basic science and anatomy.
After medical school, Dr. Harker completed an internship in Internal Medicine at Baylor University Medical Center. He then returned to The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center for dermatology residency training, where Dr. Gerardo Marrazzo and Dr. Jake Turrentine trained. During residency, Dr. Harker served as Chief Resident over the VA dermatology clinic. As Chief Resident, he provided critical leadership through the COVID-19 crisis and was instrumental in establishing a teledermatology service for the clinic. Dr. Harker was recognized for his clinical acumen and surgical skills as a resident. He also regularly volunteered at the Agape Clinic, a free dermatology clinic in Dallas, providing critical care for local underserved populations. His efforts were highlighted and recognized in publications by the American Academy of Dermatology. He completed his residency in June 2020 and is excited to begin his practice serving the people of Hickory and the surrounding communities.
Dr. Harker, originally from Alberta, Canada, has lived in Utah, Texas, and is excited to settle in North Carolina with his family.
