Gerardo Marrazzo, M.D. Joins Hickory Dermatology

It is with great pleasure that we announce that Gerardo Marrazzo, M.D., Board-certified Dermatologist and Fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon, will join The Skin Surgery Center at its Hickory Dermatology location on July 1, 2016. Dr. Marrazzo graduated summa cum laude from The South Carolina Honors College at the University of South Carolina – Columbia. He then received his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine and remained in Atlanta to complete his internship at Emory University Hospital and Grady Memorial Hospital. During his training, Dr. Marrazzo excelled both scholastically and clinically, receiving the training program’s “Award for Cognitive Excellence” all three years and “Award for the Star Clinician” during his final year of training. He also served as Chief Resident during his final year. Dr. Marrazzo completed his fellowship training in Mohs Micrographic Surgery, Cutaneous Oncology, and Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the nation’s most competitive fellowship program with Drs. John Zitelli and David Brodland.

Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Dr. Marrazzo and his family immigrated to Greenville, SC in the early 1990’s. He remains fluent in Spanish and, throughout his career, has taken pride in providing Spanish-speaking patients care in their native language. Thrilled to be back in the Carolinas, Dr. Marrazzo, his wife Aubrey, and their son, Aniello, are expecting a second son in June. They look forward to joining the community of Hickory and getting to know many of you personally. Dr. Marrazzo welcomes the challenge of providing your patients the highest caliber dermatology and skin cancer care possible.

Dr. Marrazzo provides the highest quality care in treating skin cancers of all types. His world-class training has prepared him to treat multiple rare tumors with the Mohs technique, including using immunohistochemical staining intraoperatively during Mohs for melanoma in-situ and invasive melanoma. He has performed more than 3,200 surgeries in his fellowship alone. Dr. Marrazzo trained under superb reconstructionists, and following tumor extirpation, and he will reconstruct the vast majority of wounds on the same day in his office. This poses a tremendous economic and time advantage to patients. Dr. Marrazzo also performs wide local excisions of both malignant and benign lesions. Dr. Marrazzo has authored numerous scientific articles and textbook chapters on cutaneous oncology, reconstructive surgery, and general dermatology, and has been a speaker at regional, national, and international meetings.

Dr. Marrazzo is Board-certified in Dermatology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. He also remains an active member of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery.

Hickory Dermatology Joins The Skin Surgery Center

It is our great pleasure to announce that on April 1st, Hickory Dermatology joins The Skin Surgery Center. We are thrilled to welcome Richard J. Salomon, M.D. and Karen Trygg Wold, M.D. Board-certified dermatologists, who share a long history of providing exceptional dermatologic care for the patients of Hickory and the surrounding communities.

Since 1992, Hickory Dermatology has provided thorough and compassionate care to its patients, and its affiliation with The Skin Surgery Center will afford it the opportunity to offer additional services to its patients. Dr. Salomon and Dr. Wold have maintained long waiting lists for new patients for many years, but plans for the near future include moving to a new space and adding additional Mohs and general dermatology providers.

Dr. Salomon has been practicing dermatology for more than 30 years and joined Hickory Dermatology in 1992.
Dr. Salomon earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor and graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology from Albion College in Albion, MI.

He completed a rotating internship at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Howell, Michigan and a residency in Dermatology at North Carolina Memorial Hospital. Additionally, he completed programs in Medical Mycology Program and Cutaneous Surgery at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C. Dr. Salomon is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology and a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and American Society for Dermatologic Surgery.

Dr. Wold has practiced with Hickory Dermatology since 1998. She brings more than 25 years of experience in general dermatology. Dr. Wold earned her medical degree from New Jersey Medical School in Newark, N.J. She graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in Zoology from Duke University in Durham, N.C. Dr. Wold completed residencies in Dermatology at The University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa and Internal Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. Dr. Wold is a Fellow of the American Board of Dermatology and American Board of Internal Medicine.
