Skin Biopsy

What is a skin biopsy?

The skin is an incredibly complex organ that warrants Fellowship-training and Board certification in the subspecialty of Dermatopathology.

Dermatology visits often result in a skin biopsy. A biopsy is a sampling of a growth or rash. The sample consists of a small piece of skin, usually 3-6 millimeters. A significant amount of information can be gained from such a small piece of skin.

Following a biopsy, the specimen is processed over a 12 to 24 hour period, involving microscopic review by our Board-certified Dermatopathologist. With that tiny section, rashes and growths can be diagnosed. This process provides your dermatologist with the information needed to determine the best possible treatment for you. Accurate and timely diagnosis of your skin disease is important.

Patient Testimonial

I was impressed by the competency and professionalism of The Skin Surgery Center staff, not to mention their friendly and welcoming attitudes.
